In this three-day workshop, you will learn how to knit a simple bulky weight child's vest. (The same pattern is also
available in men's and women's sizes. When you have mastered the child's size, you will be able to use the skills learned
in this workshop to knit the adult-sized vest if desired.) You will learn to follow a pattern, knit a gauge swatch, knit a one-piece
garment using circular knitting needles, work a garter stitch border with the main body in stockinette stitch, place markers,
increase and decrease stitches, divide your work in order to fashion armholes, bind off shoulder seams together and insert a
zipper into a knitted piece. We will also review how to correct simple mistakes.
The class will meet in three sessions, two weeks apart. After each session students will work at home to reach a specified point
in the project, in order to learn and use new skills the following class session. Pattern and yarn to make the smallest size vest are
included in the materials fee. You may bring your own needles or purchase at the time of class. Needles specified in the pattern
are 24" circulars sizes US 10 and US 9, or size required to get correct gauge. You will also need seven stitchholders. You can
bring your own or we will have them for sale.
Pre-requisites: Students should have mastered the basics of knitting
